Two great ideas came together to form Fishing To End Hunger! John Poston, Executive Director of Kids Against Hunger-Brainerd Lakes Area wanted to do a fundraising event to benefit the charity. John thought a fishing contest would work well. Meanwhile, Dan Eigen, Walleyedan, wanted to put together a fishing tournament to benefit a charity. John and Dan had a conversation about this and their visions came together as Fishing To End Hunger! Dan has been a supporter of Kids Against Hunger-Brainerd Lakes Area, so it was a perfect fit. Bar Harbor was happy to provide the venue, the date of October 5th was chosen and they were off and running.

Kids Against Hunger
The Fishing To End Hunger Tournament is to benefit Kids Against Hunger-Brainerd Lakes Area. Kids Against Hunger-Brainerd Lakes Area opened their doors in July 2012 in Nisswa and is a nonprofit humanitarian food aid organization. Kids Against Hunger’s mission is to significantly reduce the number of undernourished children around the corner in the United Sates and starving children around the world. Our fully nutritious meals are packaged by volunteers and delivered to starving families with the help of worldwide partners. Kids Against Hunger is not affiliated with or restricted to a particular religious group and does not discriminate on any basis when distributing its meals.
Kids Against Hunger-Brainerd Lakes area is a 100% volunteer organization, all of our food is purchased thru donations and all of our food is packed by volunteers. We have no paid staff. Our building has been leased to us for $1.00 per month; our overheads are electricity, phone and gas, low overheads means we can put the majority of our donations directly in to buying food.
Our revolutionary food has been developed by some of the world’s leading food scientists at Cargill, Pillsbury, General Mills and ADM. One package provides six nutritionally-complete servings for only 25 cents per serving.
During the past year, Kids Against Hunger-Brainerd Lakes Area has provided food to area food shelves, the soup kitchen in Brainerd, Operation Sandwich in Brainerd/Baxter, as well as Haiti, the Oklahoma tornado victims, Superstorm Sandy victims, and Gulf flood victims.
Special thanks to Joey Halvorson who has helped with our photography needs. She did the wonderful pictures of Dan Eigen in front of Bar Harbor; as well as our fundraising prizes. Joey has also agreed to take candid pictures during the fishing event.
Special thanks to Joshua McElmurray, McElway Marketing Services, who very patiently put together this website! Did I mention that he was very patient?!
