The Second Annual
Fishing to End Hunger
Walleye Tournament-October 4, 2014
We are pleased to announce the Second Annual Fishing To End Hunger Walleye Tournament and Silent Auction! The event be held at Bar Harbor on Gull Lake, Saturday October 4th, with the Silent Auction on Friday October 3rd.
This contest was conceived in 2013 when two great ideas came together to form Fishing To End Hunger! John Poston, Executive Director of Kids Against Hunger-Brainerd Lakes Area wanted to do a fundraising event to benefit the charity and he thought a fishing contest would work well. Meanwhile, Dan Eigen, Walleyedan, wanted to put together a fishing tournament to benefit a charity. John and Dan had a conversation about this and their visions came together as Fishing To End Hunger! Dan has been a supporter of Kids Against Hunger-Brainerd Lakes Area, so it was a perfect fit. Bar Harbor was happy to provide the venue, the date was set, and they were off and running.

The Fishing To End Hunger Tournament is to benefit Kids Against Hunger-Brainerd Lakes Area. Kids Against Hunger-BLA opened their doors July 2012 in Nisswa and is a nonprofit humanitarian food aid organization. Kids Against Hunger’s mission is to significantly reduce the number of undernourished children around the corner in the United Sates and starving children around the world. Our fully nutritious meals are packaged by volunteers and delivered to starving families with the help of worldwide partners. Kids Against Hunger is not affiliated with or restricted to a particular religious group and does not discriminate on any basis when distributing its meals. Kids Against Hunger-BLA is a volunteer organization, all of our food is purchased thru donations and packed by volunteers. The use of the building has been donated; our overheads are electricity, phone and gas, low overheads mean we can put the majority of our donations directly into buying food. Our revolutionary food has been developed by some of the world’s leading food scientists at Cargill, Pillsbury, General Mills and ADM. One package provides six nutritionally-complete servings for only 25 cents per serving. During the past year, Kids Against Hunger-BLA has provided food to area food shelves, the soup kitchen in Brainerd, Operation Sandwich in Brainerd/Baxter, Operation Backpack in Pequot Lakes, as well as Haiti, Philippines, Syrian Refugees, Oklahoma tornado victims, Superstorm Sandy victims, and Gulf flood victims.
